Last year when my parents and brother moved to the Greenville, S.C., area (setting up roots not far from where my sister’s family and aunt and uncle already lived), we knew we were going to need to find a spot to regularly camp so we could visit them as often as possible. We soon discovered, though, that finding a nearby Greenville campground–that offered full hook ups and got high reviews–was a bit of a challenge.
Thankfully we finally found Pine Ridge Campground in Roebuck, S.C. Although it is about a 30-minute drive back and forth, Pine Ridge Campground met our search parameters and has provided a perfect place to call home when visiting the Greenville area.
Campground:
One of the first things we noticed about Pine Ridge Campground is how friendly the folks are. Owners Brad and Cecilia McGalliard bought the campground about five years ago, and ever since then they, along with their son Evan, have been working to update the place to make it a family-friendly and comfortable place to stay. They have offered wonderful Southern hospitality during each of our stays this past winter.
Pine Ridge is located about 5-10 minutes off of I-26, which makes it convenient to get around town. When you turn onto the campground road, you will have to drive back past some homes and then you will reach a rather steep hill that you will have to drive down before driving back up another steep hill into the campground. This could be a bit tricky for really large rigs. The wooded campground road is narrow, such that two campers would have a difficult time passing. But the McGalliards have spaced check-in and check-out times to avoid a situation where two campers were trying to pass at the same time.
The campground offers 48 sites. Some of the sites are leased on a monthly basis, while the rest are for people coming and going. After checking in, Evan led the way to our site (No. 13) and even helped us get the camper perfectly positioned so that we didn’t need to use any levers. (Don’t you just love when a site is level?! 🙂 )
Below are some pictures of the sites available. Site 13 worked well for us and has become our “place” to stay when in town. Jarrett thought sites 38 or 34 offered the most privacy, while site 33 was probably the best pull through. The sites are either gravel or concrete pads.
Bathrooms:
The bathrooms were recently remodeled. Since we had full hook up we didn’t use them very much, but they were always very clean.
Amenities:
As the McGalliards continually work to update the campground, some of the current amenities include:
- An acre catch-and-release fishing pond
- Swimming pool
- Community fire ring area
- Jumping pillow
- Game room
- Laundry room
- Camp store
- Onsite propane and firewood
- Camping cottages
- WiFi, which was excellent from our site 13
- Small dog park
Touring:
On our last visit, Brad gave us an awesome recommendation for dinner one night: Bubba’s BBQ & Bash. Located about 10 minutes away in Spartanburg, this little spot sure hit the spot. It might just become our dinner tradition whenever we come into town. 😉
Other fun spots to dine include Tupelo Honey and Henry’s Smokehouse in Greenville.
And of course there are lots of other touring possibilities, many of which we have yet to explore (because when you don’t see family often, it’s all about snuggling kiddos and catching up!). We’ve spent most of our time in Greenville, exploring spots like downtown’s Mice on Main, Falls Park on the Reedy, the Children’s Garden at Linky Stone Park, and the Greenville Zoo.
Dates of Stay: November 2017, December 2017, January 2018, & February 2018
I almost want to say “****” though I did enjoy my stay there other than use of the free Internet which was bogged down by people using smart TV’s and game consoles and the weeds and turtle infested so called catch an release pond
We have stayed here multiple times now while visiting family and generally the wifi works well during the day, but it seems at night and on the weekends it does get bogged down. It may also be dependent on how close the campsite it to the wifi router. 🙂
Didn’t say HOW MUCH in all ur talk about the nice CG!? How much per month for 30 & 50 AMP if u stay by the month?
Hi Vivian 🙂 The daily rate was $38 plus tax when we last stayed. Monthly rates are different; here is the link to learn more: https://www.pineridgecampground.com/monthly-rates
