At the beginning of the year we launched this “Favorite Things” series as a way to highlight some of the fun things going on behind the scenes here at The Touring Camper. We try to post daily over on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, but a lot of what we post on social media we never get a chance to share on the blog. So here are some of our favorite moments from March:
1. Our OBX spring break trip
This was our first camping trip of the season and we were all excited to be on the hunt for adventures again. It was a jam-packed week of lighthouses, Jr. Ranger badges, shell collecting, historic site touring … and crazy hair from the gusty coastal “breeze.” (Outer Banks ladies: How do you keep your hair looking so good? Sweetpea and I wore a constant mess of tangles last week. :)) We’ll have more details about our trip coming next week.
2. Adventure bedroom decor
My talented sis is a graphic designer and when she visited earlier this month she brought some fun new prints for the boys’ adventure bedroom. I love how the room is coming together–I’m on the hunt for a few more things before I put up Part 2 of this post.
3. Sandwiches, Pittsburgh style
Hands down my favorite sandwich joint is Primanti Bros. For years it was just a Pittsburgh tradition, but the restaurant continues to expand. I’ll never forget the first time I tried to figure out how to eat (gracefully) this piled-high creation. Let’s just say, there’s no graceful way. 🙂
4. Our first taste of Duck Donuts
Over the years we’ve heard people rave about Duck Donuts–the famous “made-to-order” concoctions. But until our visit to the Outer Banks, we had never been close enough to give them a try. Verdict: They live up to the hype! Surprise favorite? The lemon coating with coconut.
5. Sunrises and sunsets
It’s been awhile since we’ve taken time to slow down and just enjoy the natural wonders of each new day. I look at these pictures and can’t believe my babies are no longer babies, and I’m reminded of the song “Sunrise, Sunset” from the classic movie Fiddler on the Roof:
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

Did you enjoy this peek into our month at home and on the road? To get more weekly updates like these, be sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter where we share glimpses into our everyday life.
Our favorite thing about March was getting to pull our travel trailer, Birdy, out from her winter storage and hit the road! We were blessed with good weather for half of our spring break and made a trip to NW Arkansas.
My other favorite thing is the pillowcases my mother-in-law is making out of some super fun travel-themed tea towels my husband bought me for Christmas. Can’t wait to get this project done.
Oooh! Those sound like they are going to be super cool pillowcases. Can’t wait to see when you post a picture! 🙂
