Last year we launched this “Favorite Things” series as a way to highlight some of the fun things going on behind the scenes here at The Touring Camper. We try to post daily over on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, but a lot of what we post on social media we never get a chance to share on the blog. So here are some of our favorite moments from September:

Fun mail!
I continue to be so impressed with our nation’s park system. Earlier this month the kids got their special eclipse Junior Ranger badges in the mail, and then last week the Star Spangled Banner badges arrived as well. Many thanks to the park rangers who spent time reviewing the kids’ booklets and then taking the time to send back them back with the badges–including a personal note!
Did you know that some Junior Ranger badge programs can be completed at home and then mailed to the NPS office? To learn more, head over here.
A birthday!
Our middlest (as he calls himself 🙂 ) turned 8 this month. We celebrated with a trip to one of our favorite fall places, Irons Mill Farmstead. And I can tell you, things definitely got a bit “corny.” 😉
And for his cake I made “Lego” chocolates with the help of some handy silicon molds.
early fall camping trips!
Jarrett gets Father-of-the-Year award for giving me another weekend off so I could focus on some writing projects I have going on behind the scenes. He whisked the kids off for a weekend camping trip at Pymatuning State Park. The weather was gorgeous and they had a blast canoeing, biking, and hanging out around the campfire. Plus they experimented with some new camping recipes, like a gluten-free campfire pizza and pudding-filled woof ’em treats. Watch for more about those recipes here on the blog.
