At the beginning of the year we launched this “Favorite Things” series as a way to highlight some of the fun things going on behind the scenes here at The Touring Camper. We try to post daily over on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, but a lot of what we post on social media we never get a chance to share on the blog. So here are some of our favorite moments from November:

When I was a kid, my family had this small odd-shaped room in the basement that we turned into what we dubbed “The Lego Room.” My sister, brother, and I–along with my parents!–would spend hours building all kinds of creations. We had enough road plates to create an elaborate city, complete with fire station, hospital, library, school, etc.
So when our first little ones came along, we wasted no time in introducing them to Duplos–which of course are the precursor to the real deal. All three of our munchkins have become quite the little Lego Builders–and we now have our own lego table just like I did as a kid. (Last year, Jarrett designed and made it from basic bookshelves and laminated wood board.) So you can imagine how excited they were to get to attend Lego Kids Fest in Cleveland last month. It was epic–one of the best family activities we’ve attended.
2. Thanksgiving with family
It was our first year ever hosting Thanksgiving–and all of my family was able to make it in. How cool are they? The kiddos had a blast hanging out with their sweet cousins–something they don’t get to do very often due to the nine hours of highway between us. We managed to put out a respectable spread–and gluten-free to boot! And of course over the Thanksgiving weekend the family tuned in for the big game between Ohio State and Michigan “That Team Up North.” The game certainly didn’t disappoint these Buckeye fans.
3. Product review
The kids loved getting to test out the innovative, all-in-one Bundle Bed. Whether you are a tent camper, RVer, or neither, the instant bed is a great sleep solution. Check out our full review here and find out how you can save 20 percent on a Bundle sleeping bag purchase, but only for a limited time!
4. A bathroom remodel!
When we’re not on the road in the camper, we make our home in a century old farmhouse that once moonlighted as a candy store. It has cool history and great bones, but it’s been a slow process remodeling it. So I was thrilled we were finally able to tackle the tiny downstairs bathroom. Because, really, we only had the new vanity sitting in our garage for at least two years (possibly three? I can’t remember exactly) after I scored it on deep discount. That’s how we roll around here–hehe. 🙂
Of course, we chose to do this “little” remodel just a week before all of our Thanksgiving guests arrived–and nothing ever goes as planned. But by some miracle, after several unexpected detours–including an unfortunate water leak involving a decrepit old crawl space that we won’t even talk about–we managed to pull it all back together just a day before everyone arrived. Whew! And for amateurs, I think it turned out pretty awesome.
