At the beginning of the year we launched this “Favorite Things” series as a way to highlight some of the fun things going on behind the scenes here at The Touring Camper. We try to post daily over on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, but a lot of what we post on social media we never get a chance to share on the blog. So here are some of our favorite moments from May:
1. Camper table extension
This little modification to our camper table that Jarrett did not only turned out fantastic, but it’s going to be such a big help on our camping trips this summer. No more being “squishy” as our son bemoaned last year. 🙂
2. Aldi finds
This month Aldi had some great camping finds–including this collapsible dish drainer. We liked it so much after our trip to Charles Mill (review coming soon!) that I went back to get another one. Alas, they were already all gone–it was a hot buy!
3. A May camping trip
We met up with family for an impromptu camping trip at Charles Mill in Mansfield, Ohio–and Jarrett and I even got a day away while the kids hung out with their grandparents. Jarrett whipped up some awesome camp food for the two of us and experimented with two new dutch oven desserts. Be sure to check out the gluten-free dutch oven seven-layer brownie recipe, and watch for details on the other recipes coming soon!
4. Funny camping memories
While we were camping at Charles Mill we had an interesting experience that will make for a funny story to share through the years. We were camping a few sites away from Jarrett’s dad, and he had said we could get wood off his fire pile rather than buying more. So when Jarrett did that the second night, a guy walking his dog saw him and reported him to the park ranger. We got it all squared away with the park ranger and it was all good–and we know the campers there are very conscientious! 🙂
