At the beginning of the year we launched this “Favorite Things” series as a way to highlight some of the fun things going on behind the scenes here at The Touring Camper. We try to post daily over on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, but a lot of what we post on social media we never get a chance to share on the blog. So here are some of our favorite moments from July:
1. Playing Pooh Sticks
Sometimes it’s just the little things in life that mean the most … like playing an impromptu game of Pooh Sticks. And this little bridge we found along our hike through part of Bald Eagle State Forest was just perfect. Look for more details about this visit in our Bald Eagle State Park review coming next month!
2. Steamtown
We are so thankful a friend mentioned in passing about this really great train museum near Scranton, Pa.: Turns out it was Steamtown National Historic Site, and what a gem! We only had a few hours to explore, but needed a whole day! We hope to return one day when the kiddos are older. Look for more details about this visit in our Promised Land State Park review coming next month!
3. Waterfalls
Both days we hiked in to see first Bushkill Falls and then Dingmans Falls were sticky-hot and we narrowly missed getting stuck in storms. But both waterfall hikes were worth it. We’ve coined a new phrase from the experience: The family that sweats together stays together! 🙂 Look for more details about this visit in our Promised Land State Park review coming next month!

4.Visiting Philly
We are really just a bunch of country kids, so taking on Philly was living on the wild side for us! 🙂 We successfully parked our behemoth of a vehicle, conquered Independence Hall, claimed three more Junior Ranger badges, posed by the Liberty Bell, sampled an authentic Philly cheesesteak (ahem, we think our Pittsburgh Primanti version was way better!), and got out of the city all before 4:30 p.m. Look for more details about this visit in our Philly/West Chester KOA review coming next month!
5. Meeting up with the gang from RV Circus!
It was so much fun getting to finally meet Mark and Sandie and their four kiddos. Our two families had a blast hanging out at Gettysburg and exploring more of the area around Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Alas we neglected to get any shots of the four adults, but you can tell how much fun the kiddos had below: They were all very sad for it to end–but we are already plotting an annual RV Circus and Touring Camper meet-up! Look for more details about this visit in our Pine Grove Furnace State Park review coming soon!
(One member of the RV Circus gang was missing because she was a little camera shy. 😉 )

#5 isn’t too shabby, but I’d go with #4 if a cheese steak was involved;-)
Haha! 🙂
