Last year we launched this “Favorite Things” series as a way to highlight some of the fun things going on behind the scenes here at The Touring Camper. We try to post daily over on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, but a lot of what we post on social media we never get a chance to share on the blog. So here are some of our favorite moments from January:
January’s Top Fav = Our Winter adventure To Texas
Three days after Christmas our van and camper pulled out of the driveway to start our epic Texas adventure. The opportunity to spend three weeks on the road exploring Texas had unfolded just a few weeks prior and spurred a tizzy of planning and packing. So for the first time, these two Type-A planners had to be flexible–and do a lot of flying by the seat of their pants. In the end it all worked out–and we made some awesome memories with our kids.
If you missed our earlier post about the start of our Texas trip and visit to Arkansas, you can check it out here. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be sharing more about our winter Texas adventure as we highlight the places we stayed and toured.
Visiting Magnolia Market
Any fan of HGTV’s Fixer Upper would be quick to tell you that a visit to Waco, Texas, would not be complete without a stop at Magnolia Market, the retail home of design rockstars Chip and Joanna Gaines. After enjoying Texas-style fare from the onsite food trucks, I perused the shop alone while the kids and Jarrett had fun playing on the green. Before we left, the siren call of Silos Baking Co. reeled us in for cupcakes that I’m still dreaming about. (This stop definitely made up for the epic fail boondocking on my birthday, and the only thing that would have made it sweeter would have been to share it with my sis too–one day Katy!)
Seven National Park Service stops
On our three-week Texas adventure, we made seven national park stops. This was probably the highlight for our three kiddos, who are addicted enjoy completing the educational Junior Ranger program at each site. By trip’s end, they had netted seven more Junior Ranger badges–the most they’ve earned during a single trip. This may have set the bar a bit too high. 🙂
A Pinterest milestone
Over the past several months we have watched our Pinterest numbers steadily climb, so I was a wee bit excited this month when I realized we crossed over 10,000 followers. And we have you all–our faithful readers–to thank for that milestone! Pinterest is one of my favorite places to get ideas for camping and our travels. If you aren’t currently following us on Pinterest, but you want to see what cool camping, RVing, and travel content we share, you can follow us by going here.
