On our last camping expedition we decided to branch out from our typical s’mores and try a recipe I had found online: campfire cones. At first our friend who was camping with us was really intrigued by how we were going to keep the ice cream from melting over the fire–until he realized this cone treat doesn’t require ice cream. While our family enjoyed this treat, we are traditionalists, so nothing can beat a good old-fashioned s’more or our family favorite, angels on horseback.
Ingredients:
- Ice cream cones
- Marshmallows
- Chocolate chips (or candy bar bits, white chocolate chips, toffee, caramel, etc.)
Optional mix-ins:
- Peanut butter
- Banana, strawberry, or other favorite fruits
Stuff your cone with whatever flavor combination appeals to you. We kept ours simple with peanut butter, chocolate chips, and marshmallows.
Then wrap the cone in foil, spraying the portion of foil at the top of the cone with cooking spray so that the marshmallows don’t stick when you open it back up.
Cook over the campfire for about 5 minutes, or more depending on the heat of your fire; rotate once or twice for even cooking.
Enjoy the gooey treat!
