At the beginning of the year we launched this “Favorite Things” series as a way to highlight some of the fun things going on behind the scenes here at The Touring Camper. We try to post daily over on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, but a lot of what we post on social media we never get a chance to share on the blog. So here are some of our favorite moments from April:
1. Wild Kratts with the kiddos
Our kiddos love … like really LOVE … watching Wild Kratts on PBS every morning while they eat breakfast. They are only allowed an hour of television a day, and Wild Kratts makes the cut every day. And from watching the show, the kids can tell us things about proboscis monkeys and caracals that I never learned in school. (It’s seriously a great show and if you have kids, you should check it out.)
So for Christmas we purchased the kids tickets to Wild Kratts Live! and the show was finally this month in Akron. The kids had a great time getting to see Chris and Martin live and learning more about amazing creature power.
2. An article in RV Open Road
I was super excited to have my first RV Open Road article appear in the spring 2016 edition. In this piece I tackled camper organization and offered tips to whip your camper in shape for the new camping season. You can view a copy online here.
3. Cool new campsite decor
For Christmas, our camping buddies surprised us with this great mini-flag to hang at our campsites. Isn’t it adorable? We forgot to bring it with us to the Outer Banks last month, but we can’t wait to get it rigged up on the next outing in May. And if you want to score your own personalized flag, then head over here to the Glass Slipper Shoppe on Etsy.
4. Campfire hot rod
Our boys are gearing up for their first scout troop pinewood derby, so this past weekend they were holed up in the garage working away on their cars. Flash opted for a campfire theme–how fun is this? It might not toast the competition in speed, but maybe it will roast the others out in the creativity category? (No puns intended of course.)
So what were your favorite things of April? You can share in the comment section below.

My favorite thing of April was getting out for our first weekend of camping for the 2016 season!! Living in central IL we don’t get to camp year around (or choose not too) so it is always exciting to get to go the first time of the year!! We had great weather and the kids were awesome, which is even better for mom and dad!!!
Hi Sara! Thanks for stopping by and reading! So glad you had a great first campout of the year–it’s always exciting getting back out after a long winter. 🙂 Happy camping!
That derby car is awesome!!
Thanks Kerri! It even did well during the test round. The big race is next week! 🙂
